About Erik Weikel

Erik Weikel has nurtured a lifelong love of animals. From his early years with family pets, he became actively involved in 4-H programs focused on Veterinary Medicine and Seeing Eye Dogs. His deep compassion and respect for animals have always been central to who he is.

Erik went on to study primate behavior in zoos, from Philadelphia to Germany, where he examined how primates adapt and interact in both traditional and naturalistic zoo environments. During graduate school, he also spent time observing lemurs in the forests near Duke University, further expanding his understanding of animal behavior in more natural settings.

Although Erik no longer works directly with animals, his passion for them remains strong. That enduring love and insight have inspired his fantasy children’s book, which imagines animals getting up to delightful and silly adventures after dark.
